Be inspired and feel included!
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Birmingham Adult Education Service, we offer a programme of study for adults with SEND that aims to inspire and enable our learners to achieve their potential, and reach any personal goals.
Who should enrol on a SEND course?
If you are nineteen years old, or older and have a special learning need or disability, our courses will teach you how to manage tasks better in your everyday life and inspire you to explore different work or volunteering opportunities. While you are developing these new skills, you will discover that your self-confidence increases too.
Our SEND programme will prepare you with the skills and knowledge you need to progress onto further courses. If you are looking to find employment or volunteer in the community our courses will help you take these next steps.
What skills will you learn on our SEND programme?
Our programme is made up of a range of courses at progressive levels that can take up to three years to complete. At the end of the programme, there is the opportunity to gain accreditation at Entry level in English, maths and IT. During your studies you have the chance to develop further skills in one of four areas; Catering, Independent Living, Gardening or Retail.
What to expect when you join one of our SEND courses
You will join a safe and inclusive learning environment where classes are kept small, with a maximum of 11 learners per class.
Each programme of study is broken down into sessions that are taught over two full days per week. Most classes have a Learning Support Assistant or a volunteer who provides individual support when needed. On our courses, you will meet new people who have similar goals and share many things in common with you.
It’s all about the support we can offer you!
If you feel any of our courses might be right for you, we would love to invite you to an assessment day so you can find out more and meet the team.
