Marie-Elaina loves language. She began learning French in school and continued into adulthood.
She also encouraged her daughter to immerse herself in as many languages as possible, knowing languages would enrich her life and encourage understanding and empathy.
In her 30s, Marie-Elaina developed a brain condition. She lost her ability to speak French. Unable to re-learn the language she loved through apps, she grew frustrated. It was the turn of her daughter, a Spanish learner at BAES, to offer advice.
She told her mother the only way she was going to learn French was if she went to Brasshouse.
Like her daughter years before, Marie-Elaina listened. She joined in January and has immersed herself in learning and the BAES community. Despite mobility difficulties, she demonstrates outstanding commitment; she is always early for lessons and welcomes classmates with a warm smile.
She has taken part in the languages prose competition; and wanting to further immerse herself in the language and help others, she set up a French conversation club. The club meets up twice a month and Marie-Elaina creates a warm and relaxed environment. The members have said how enormously beneficial they find it.

Marie-Elana lost a language she loved. But now, with each lesson, each conversation, the words are coming back to her. Now she can fall in love all over again.
