From the very beginning, Anna had one clear goal: to keep up with the digital world.
At 65, she now feels confident using her phone for everyday tasks such as mobile banking and booking appointments through the NHS app — something that once felt unfamiliar before joining the course.
Anna joined our Selly Oak Centre to develop her digital skills and is now also studying English. She recognised that technology is an essential part of everyday life and not something that can be avoided.
Rather than feeling left behind, she made the decision to enrol on a course that would help her become more independent and confident in an increasingly digital society.
Alongside her studies, Anna works night shifts and carefully prepares her coursework and class bag in advance. After finishing work at 7:45am, she comes straight to class, which begins at 9:30am – a commitment that reflects her determination to learn.
Reflecting on her experience, Anna says:
“It’s not difficult because this is what I want. I want to learn. You see it everywhere — everything is digital.”
Anna speaks highly of the support she has received at the centre, particularly from the learning assistant, who consistently supports her and other learners during and after class with any questions or tasks they may be struggling with
