Catherine joined an English course so she could gain the qualification she needed to train to be a sensory play therapist for children.

At first, she lacked confidence and felt the pressure of the course, knowing its importance to achieving her ultimate goal.

Catherine, however, has persisted, managing herself and remaining utterly focused. There have still been challenges, but she has always managed to communicate them, recognising when she has needed support. Because of her hard work, Catherine’s confidence and maturity has soared.

This has led to her excelling on the course, gaining some of the highest marks in the class.

Extra self-belief has meant Catherine has been able to step outside of herself and support her peers. She volunteered to organise an event at Shard End Centre, for example, alongside two other class representatives.

Together, they meticulously planned an event that built connections with other learners, creating space for discussing how they can provide mutual support.

The event was a success, with over 20 learners and staff members attending and overwhelmingly positive feedback; participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to connect with learners they wouldn’t usually speak to. It made for a memorable event.

Catherine has become a pro-active leader.

Her thoughtfulness and ability to organise and inspire a community of learners shows she will go far in education and in life.
