Opening new doors

Opening New Doors to opportunities

What could a GCSE qualification help you to do?

Get a degree

For 40 years, GCSEs in English and maths have been the UK’s most widely recognised stepping stone towards higher education. Even degree courses in subjects like Maths and Science usually have GCSE English as an entry requirement.

If you’ve ever thought about going to university in the future, and you don’t already have both GCSEs in English or maths you need to enrol onto a course NOW!

Finding a job

There are lots of jobs which do not require a degree or A Levels and instead provide ‘on the job’ training. Recruiters for these jobs nearly always insist that applicants have already passed GCSE English.

To get a job as a chef, firefighter, fitness instructor, customer service rep, estate agent, or to become a member of the armed services, you will probably need GCSE English and maths. Furthermore if you don’t have them – you can be sure someone else will.

Job hunting becomes a whole lot easier when you can show you have GCSE certificates in English and maths.

Achieving promotion

Many organisations offer certain, less well paid, roles to people who don’t have formal qualifications, but reserve senior and management roles for employees who have at least have the two core GCSE qualifications in English and maths

Some examples of employees who will need a pass in GCSE English and maths include…

  • Health care assistants who would like to move into registered nursing
  • Administrative and customer service assistants in banking who would like to move financial advising or corporate banking
  • Grade two civil servants who would like to move towards professional certificates

Becoming a more effective communicator

Whether you’d like to brush up your presentation skills so that you can get on at work: learn how to structure a coherent report, or try your hand at short story writing.

You will be taught how to use words in more persuasive way and how to analyse other people’s language. You’ll develop critical thinking skills and learn how to unearth hidden subtext.

GCSE English is a great way of enhancing your communication skills.

“Children whose parents, particularly mothers, have at least GCSE-level (or equivalent) qualifications have significantly higher test scores than children whose parents have no qualifications.”
